Obituary

Benneville Roof, 88, died on Saturday, February 9, 2019, after a brief illness. A lifelong Middletown resident, “Ben” was well known in the community from his 35 years managing several Sohio gas stations in the area. After his retirement, he continued developing his passions for gardening and craftsmanship, as well as spending treasured time with his grandchildren. Benneville is a veteran of the Korean War, where he served his country with distinction and was awarded the Bronze Star with valor, the Expert Infantryman Badge, and a Purple Heart. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and an advocate of veterans’ needs. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wanda (Perry) Roof; his brother, Richard; his daughter, Rebecca (Greg) Botos; his son, David; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benneville and Rosa (Reed) Roof, and his sister, Mary Jane Hursh. Donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
