Obituary

Charles Raymond Brewer, 71 of Monroe passed away on Monday, January 11th at Bethesda North Hospital after succumbing to Covid complications. He was born on August 16, 1949 in Middletown, Ohio to Charles Brewer and Mabel (Whitt) Haller and was raised by his step father Marion Haller. He was one of four children and had two brothers and a sister, Steve, Diane and Mike.  Steve and Diane preceded him in death. He was devoted to his wife of 45 years, Vikki R. Brewer, who survived him, and he loved his daughters, grandchildren, and his dog Chewy.  Charles had 3 daughters, Angela Denhard (Jeffrey), Jennifer Mendoza and Faith Sharits; 5 grandchildren, Justin, Austin, Ian, Asa and Casey;  and 1 great-grandchild, Arianna.  Charles served our country in the US Marine Corp. during Vietnam (Semper Fi, Do or Die), and was a victim of Agent Orange.  He worked at AK Steel for 34 years, retiring in 2006, and was a rank and file union member and Grievance Man for the Armco Employees Independent Federation (AEIF) Union.  He is remembered by his coworkers for being a hard worker, a good friend, his kindness, his mischievous sense of humor, and being a great cook (especially breakfast).  Charles was a longtime member of Towne Blvd. Church of God and recently a member of Franklin Church where he was helping to lead the music ministry.  His Church and his faith were very important to him and he loved to praise the Lord through song.  He was a member of the Middletown Moose Lodge # 501 and Middletown Eagles Lodge # 1300, where he played in several bands throughout the years.  He loved his music and passed on this love to his daughters and grandchildren.  He was famous throughout Middletown and beyond for his powerful and beautiful voice and he could wear out a Harmonica (or Blues Harp as he called it).  He was involved in many different church ministries, and the music ministries were the ones closest to his heart.  Charles was very active and was always busy either fixing something, building something, helping someone, or serving in a ministry.  He was a constant source of support for his children either by helping them around the house, or offering advice and wisdom or a “dadism” to make us laugh.  He was not a morning person and we knew not to bother him until after his 2nd cup of coffee.  Private Services are being held at the Convenience of the Family. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to: Franklin Church and in the Memo Line write “Save a Baby” - an organization that helps counsel young pregnant mothers through difficult choices, and was a cause close to his heart. Checks can be mailed to Franklin Church, 704 South River Street, Franklin, Ohio 45005.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.bakerstevensparramore.com .

From Vikki Brewer, Wife
Chuck, it feels like I have loved you my whole life.  We were best friends.  I miss my best friend.  You knew me like no one else could and I the same.  I cry and cry but I am comforted to know you went home with Jesus Christ

From Angela Denhard, Daughter
My dad loved his music and my love of music came from him.  I had the privilege of singing with my dad, officially and unofficially, all of my life.  My dad had an amazing and powerful voice and I never got tired of hearing him sing. He sang from his heart. He was so talented with a harmonica, and would bring people to their feet.  He sang with so many bands and people over the years and made lasting friendships.  My dad was a good friend to everyone he met.  He taught me what being a good friend means.  He was a dedicated and loyal worker and all of us carry that work ethic with us.  My dad could do anything with his hands and did almost all of the renovations at our Carolina St. house in Mayfield on his own, and many of the renovations at his Monroe house where he lived until he died.  He was always the person I called for advice.  He taught me what different tools were and how to change my own oil or change a flat tire - which came in handy over the years.  My dad had a mischievous sense of humor and you could always tell he was up to something by the twinkle in his eye.  My youngest son who is 9 now, said his grandpa was his best friend.  They would facetime each week and talk about everything and giggle.  My dad was fair, honest, ethical, and he stood up for what he believed in always.  He was black and white in his opinions which could sometimes drive us crazy, but I do think we appreciated that we always knew where he stood and where we stood with him.  He was a strong man who raised strong daughters. I will miss just talking to my dad and listening to his stories. I will carry him with me always.

From Jen Mendoza, Daughter
Dad, since we have put out to the world that you have passed, we have received an outpour of support, strong prayers and storytelling. Dad, you truly were a man of the people. Your gift of song, sense of humor, ability to fix things, and your nature to care for others made lasting impacts on the community far and wide. You planted a fruit tree knowing that you would never taste it's fruit and even if I may never seek shelter under it nor the nourishment, I am offered peace knowing it is there for others. May the creator accept you and be pleased with your life's work. Journey well and rest in power.

From Nikki Sharits, Daughter
There are many favorite memories that I have about Dad and most of them centered on camping or singing and playing an instrument. Dad was a great storyteller.  I had so many favorites.  His stories about his great grandpa living in a cave were the best.  He was a great singer/musician and I was always so proud of that. Dad always wanted the best for us and showed that in the way he taught us. I will remember always working around the house or sitting in his chair getting that look on his face when he was about to say something corny.  Dad had a way of telling stories so much that you felt like you were there.  It is because of him that I have the talents that I do and the loves for a lot of the same things as him like singing, animals and the outdoors.  I sang for him in his final days and it honored me to do so.
